राज्यपाल हरिभाऊ बागडे ने कहा है कि आयुर्वेद के भारतीय ज्ञान को युगानुकूल बनाते हुए इससे जुड़ी दुर्लभ औषधियों का पेटेंट, प्रमाणीकरण और इससे जुड़े स्वास्थ्यवर्धक गुणों का अधिकाधिक प्रसार किया जाए। उन्होंने आयुर्वेदिक औषधियों पर शोध और अनुसंधान को बढ़ावा देने के साथ असाध्य रोगों में भी इनके उपयोग के परीक्षण और प्रसार की दिशा में कार्य करने आह्वान किया है। बागडे गुरुवार को जोधपुर में राष्ट्रीय आयुर्वेद विश्वविद्यालय द्वारा आयोजित ‘आयुर्वेदिक औषधि मानकीकरण-चुनौतियां और समाधान’ विषयक अन्तरराष्ट्रीय संगोष्ठी में बोल रहे थे। उन्होंने कहा कि आयुर्वेदिक औषधियों की ब्रांडिग और पैकेजिंग भी इस तरह से हो कि वह उपयोग के लिए आकर्षित करे। उन्होंने इनके विपणन की कारगर नीति पर भी कार्य करने का जोर दिया।

राज्यपाल ने प्राचीन भारतीय आयुर्वेद ज्ञान की चर्चा करते हुए आत्रेय, चरक, सुश्रुत आदि द्वारा प्रवर्तित चिकित्सा प्रणालियों के उपयोग और संभावनाओं पर कार्य करने पर जोर दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि हमारे आयुर्वेद के महान ज्ञान को सुनियोजित तरीके से देश से बाहर ले जाया गया। उस ज्ञान में कुछ हेर-फेर कर उसे अपना बनाने के प्रयास निरंतर हुए। इसलिए यह जरूरी है कि जो उपलब्ध ज्ञान हमारा है, आयुर्वेद की दुर्लभ औषधियां हैं-उनके पेटेंट की दिशा में निरंतर कार्य हो। उन्होंने नालंदा विश्वविद्यालय में आयुर्वेद के महान ज्ञान से जुड़ी किताबों की चर्चा करते हुए कहा कि बख्तियार खिलजी ने देश के उस महान ज्ञान को सदा के लिए समाप्त करने के लिए नालंदा पुस्तकालय में आग लगा दी पर भारतीय ज्ञान को कोई मिटा नहीं सका है। उन्होंने आयुर्वेदाचार्यों से आग्रह किया कि वे प्राचीन भारतीय ज्ञान की धरोहर को जन—जन तक सुलभ कराएं। उन्होंने औषधीय प्रयोजनों के लिए जड़ी-बूटियों के उपयोग और लिखित ग्रंथों के महत्व पर भी कार्य करने पर जोर दिया। राज्यपाल ने इससे पहले विश्वविद्यालय के अंतर्गत बने होम्योपैथी महाविद्यालय के भवन का भी लोकार्पण किया।
