कोटपूतली सहित आसपास के क्षेत्र में बुधवार को महाशिवरात्रि धूमधाम के साथ मनाया गया। शिव मंदिरों में अल सुबह से ही श्रद्धालुओं का आना शुरु हो गया था। श्रद्धालुओं ने उपवास रखकर शिव मंदिर में शिवलिंग के ऊपर जल, दुग्ध, दही, शहद, गन्ने का रस, बिल्वपत्र, गाजर, बेर आदि अर्पित कर विशेष पूजा अर्चना कर भगवान शिव के बम-बम भोले व हर-हर महादेव के जय घोष लगाए। तालाब वाले श्री शिव मंदिर में श्रद्धालुओं की देर शाम तक भारी भीड़ रही। अनेक मंदिरों में गाजर के हलवे का भगवान शिव के भोग लगाकर प्रसाद वितरित किया गया। इसी प्रकार दयावती विहार कॉलोनी स्थित शिव हनुमान मन्दिर, श्री लक्ष्मीनारायण देवस्थान, दुर्गा माता मन्दिर, श्री डूंगावाला हनुमान मन्दिर, कल्याण जी मंदिर, केशव जी मन्दिर, टेलीफोन एक्सचेंज रोड़ स्थित बड़े महादेव मन्दिर, अवध बिहारी जी मन्दिर, श्री श्याम मन्दिर, श्रीराम भवन सहित क्षेत्र के विभिन्न मन्दिरों में शिवरात्रि के चलते पूरे दिन श्रद्धालुओं की भीड़ भी देखने को मिली। दूसरी ओर शहर के वार्ड संख्या 19 पुरानी सब्जी मंडी स्थित शिव मंदिर में महिलाओं ने भजन-कीर्तन का आयोजन किया गया। महिलाओं ने भगवान शिव सहित अनेक देवी-देवताओं पर आधारित कई तरह के भजनों की प्रस्तुति देकर पूरे माहौल को भक्ति मय बना दिया। इस दौरान अल्का शर्मा, मंजू शर्मा, संगीता देवी, शकुंतला देवी, अनीता शर्मा सहित अनेक महिलाओं ने भजनों की प्रस्तुतियां दी।
